Why bother following the algorithm changes?

I got an interesting question from a reader today.

Jason, no matter how many Facebook ads classes I attend, I can’t seem to figure out the news feed algorithm. What’s your advise on this?

Exactly the title of this post – why bother?

First let’s try to understand the fundamental of Facebook newsfeed algorithm. Firstly this is an algorithm “to show people the things they want to see. When people see content that’s relevant to them, they’re more likely to be engaged with News Feed, including stories from businesses.” accordingly to an official statement.

As what I understand, the algorithm takes over 100,000 factors into consideration and we will never know exactly what are they, and it changes all the time. For business pages, the average organic reach, which is the number of the fans you can reach when you post something without advertising, is around 3%.

That’s why I said don’t bother, because when you advertise, you’re out of the algorithm. When you spend on ads, you become customer instead of a user, your presence is guaranteed based on the Facebook advertising algorithm instead.

Now that’s done, your next question should be “how can I master Facebook advertising?”
